My friendship with Marilyn had its start when my children attended WUMC Nursery School many years ago. At that time, I admired her as a Director of the School, as a Teacher, as a Person, and eventually as a friend. I was delighted when Marilyn put her trust in me and hired me as the Star teacher. Eventually I became the Butterfly teacher as well. I had been an elementary teacher earlier but these positions led me into a new teaching interest. I love how young children learn, how their interests are piqued by the activities of Nursery School. and by their growth as young people who often are experiencing their first separation from Mom. Throughout my time with these age groups, Marilyn encouraged me to learn more and more about being a good teacher. These lessons stayed with me as I studied for a Masters in Education, and acquired credentials as a Reading Specialist in Elementary schools. Marilyn was interested in what I was learning. During the passing years, we kept in touch and our friendship flourished. We often would meet for lunch to catch up with one another. Marilyn shared news about Nursery School and kept me updated about the other teachers. She listened as I talked about my children and later my Grandchildren. She remembered our conversations from time to time, and she enjoyed revisiting them. I last spoke to her about two weeks before her death. We had shared our woes about our health but I never dreamed it would be our last conversation. I will miss her always, and will be forever grateful for her friendship. RIP my lovely friend.
