I never had to wonder if Mitch was my friend. Neither did anyone else who he called friend. He took friendship very seriously and chose his friends carefully. I was honored he chose me as his friend, and I certainly never took this honor for granted. He was true, loyal, generous to a fault, thoughtful, devoted, caring, and one of the most entertaining people I've ever known. Mitch found it easy to laugh, and laughter came easy as he regaled us with an unending litany of side splitting stories. He held sway at any gathering and was the life of every party. He was highly intelligent with a quick and analytical mind. I learned quickly that he was a formidable adversary and was quick to rise to the defense of his friends and co-workers. His opinions were respected and his advice was coveted by everyone who knew him. I'm thankful that I never had the need to call him at the dead hour of midnight for help; but there was never a doubt in my mind that if I did need to call him for help, he would have responded instantly and without reservation. I fear that we have suffered a greater loss than we could even imagine. God rest you now, my friend.

R.I.P. Alan Mitchell. I've lost a lot of friends and family members recently, but this one is particularly difficult. My oldest friend from school died this afternoon at 2:11pm following a long battle with cancer and twenty some surgeries. There are friends I've known longer, but no-one as consistently as Alan since we first met in 4th grade. His life was never easy, but he never complained. He was always more concerned with how the rest of us were getting by and he NEVER stopped making us laugh and feel good. His sense of humor had no limits and he could go on for hours. I'm going to really miss you Alan... thanks for being my friend. Wayne Martin, Boston, MA (Photo Below: The two of us at an amusement park, age13. l-r: Wayne Martin & Alan Mitchell)
